hey does anybody understand what a reversed card means in tarot or oracle decks?
for e.g. what is the difference between drawing a reversed card that represents happiness and an upright one representing sadness?
thanks~!

Re: cards and reversals
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 7:18 PMHey Cali, it means different things on different decks.
On the Thoth tarot inversion is downplayed, only considered when the other cards seem to contradict the inverted card, and is always a matter of choice for the reader.
Do you still use the fairey cards? With the Doreen Virtue cards, she suggests when you get an inverted card that means to internalize; that the answer is not so much about the subject but about yourself.
Good luck on your search for answers, one question at a time!~ -

Re: cards and reversals
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 7:29 PMI wanted to show y'all on the Starpeople/lightworkers tribe this tool:
podcollective.com/fora/viewtopic.php
I discovered these on the Visionary Artists Tribe, and the money collected goes directly to Tribe.net members who are the artists who helped design them, like Luke Brown and Alex Grey.
I use the Thoth deck, I Ching and the Doreen Virtue cards with my friends at the coffeehouse and live music bar. They're just timekillers and card games many times, but for some the hardest thing in the world is deciding what is THE next thing they will do.
I give all my buddies a choice, and time and time again the Galaktic cards are the ones they want!
Im pretty sure its the art

Re: cards and reversals
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 7:52 PMwhen I draw a reversed card, I don't read it as 'negation' of the card's meaning ~ but that a delay of some kind is indicated, in regards to the card's meaning ~ usually, this means that the querent is at least a bit unconscious of their own input into the situation and/or is 'dragging their feet' in some way

Re: cards and reversals
Wed, September 23, 2009 - 9:50 PMif you read the cards with your mind, then this may be a problem.
if you use the cards as they are meant to be read, using psychometry, it doesn't really matter about specifics. you'll know what the card is saying.
if you really want to read the cards well, throw away the instruction book and forget everything it says.
generally speaking, and inverted card means an inverted concept.
interpretation of the concept and how it is inverted.. that's something that no book or instruction should ever be used to define.
that is called faking it. -

Re: cards and reversals
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 1:57 AMhey everyone thanks for your replies! but i'm still not sure what it means (sorry o_O)
can someone give me an example of what they mean by interpreting this:
say i ask "should i stay with my job?" and pick up an inverted "sadness" card. what does this mean ~AND~ why would i have picked up this card instead of the "happiness" card?
p.s. PatFireCat i never owned the fairy oracle deck i just saw it in a crystal shop :D instead i bought a gypsy oracle deck that i'm trying to get the hang of hehehh i have nooo idea what i'm doing :D -

Re: cards and reversals
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 2:17 AMIMHO to reduce the meaning of any card down to just the most basic of interpretations (like "sadness" and/or "happiness") is doing oneself & the Tarot a disservice ~ nothing, including the Tarot, is that black & white
"should" is also a word to stay away from ~ the Tarot may help you to better understand your options, but the choice is still always up to you ~ I would rephrase your question as "what does sticking with my current job have to offer me?" ~ this may not seem like a big difference, but just the rephrasing of a question from yes/no to illustrating the possibilities is a step in the direction of more depth & improved grasp of your situation
hope that helps!
love all-ways,

Re: cards and reversals
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 12:27 PMHi CALI, I was not sure what stage you are at in learnig these things.
Mem gave a good answer. it's never that simple.
reading tarot cards andany other form of 'reading' is essentially about intuition.
you might know it as your 'gut feeling'.
when i pick up a card, I do not pay attention to any rules or instructions etc.
i look at the card and i pay attention to what i feel, what parts of the card i am drawn to and i imagine that i am being led on a kind of a story.
for beginners it can be difficult because many beginners find it difficult to pay attention to their own feelings and in fact to trust in their own feelings. this is something that comes in time and with practice.
try reading the cards for other people and don't worry about being right or wrong. just pay attention to what you feel and as time goes on you will elarn how your own system and perception works.
after all we are all different. what i do may not work or you. for example, some peope cannot read tarot cards very well but they hear voices instead. -

Re: cards and reversals
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 6:15 PMyea i guess that personalising it is really the secret of it all..
however i just went to facade.com to check it out and in a reading i got a reversal here is what it said:
Five of Cups (Disappointment), when reversed: Coming out of disappointment. A realistic view of the past.
that works for me for now: a reversal meaning coming out of that situation..
thanks heaps guys :D so now i'm such a pro who wants a reading -

Re: cards and reversals
Fri, September 25, 2009 - 10:47 PMahh yessss PatFireCat; i have been waiting for you.. (thanks for coming my very first ever querent :D)
the first card revealed for you is *Waiting*/Attesa/Attente/Espera/Warten (good good we're on the right track here :D but so while it is clear you are hopeful, i think i oughta draw another..)
the second card is the reversed *Lord*/Gran Signore/Gentilhomme/Gran Senor/Großherr
(and another) and the third is the reversed *Conversation*/Conversazione/Conversacion/Konversation
and i felt i would draw another to bind them all into a tangible context: *Widower*/Vedovo/Veuf/Viudo/Witwer
(is it best i attempt to interpret or are is the querent comfortable making sense of those cards?) -
